Description
The Miramichi Forest Carbon project is dedicated to restoring the endangered Acadian Forest in Miramichi, Canada.
The project is one of a series of side-by-side Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects. This project is transitioning away from the clearcutting timber regime typical of the area towards a more sustainable IFM model using selective harvesting at reduced levels and advanced silviculture to sequester more carbon, grow more valuable timber, and accelerate the return to the natural Acadian Forest—an endangered forest in North America with less than 5% of the historical ecosystem remaining.
These projects aim to sequester carbon, produce high-value timber, enhance biodiversity, and re-develop Acadian Forest's ecological characteristics within a financially successful long-term timberland project.
Treeconomy will be monitoring the project and has been working closely with the developer to bring these high-quality credits to the Marketplace. Though not required by Verra, Treeconomy has disaggregated removal and avoided credits through calculations. Further details on this can be shared. Purchases of both ex-post and ex-ante credits are available. Future vintages are also available.
